30 Day Water Challenge

You may have heard of a 1 gallon water challenge before.  This is where you drink 1 gallon of water for a specific number of days.  I’ve seen 5 day, 7 day, 14 day and 30 day challenges.  Knowing that drinking enough water is something I struggle with, I wanted to tackle my own challenge.  So, I went online and bought what I thought was a 1 gallon motivational water bottle.

What arrived was only a 43 ounce bottle, which had me a little annoyed, but at the same time it helped me really see how much a gallon is.  I’d have drink 3 of these a day to get to 1 gallon, and that seemed a little ridiculous to me.  I’m actually extremely happy with my smaller 43 ounce water bottle.  And for the last 7 days I’ve gotten into the habit of drinking 2 of these a day!

You probably know the age old recommendation of 8 glasses of water a day, which gets pretty close to the newest recommendation of half your body weight in ounces.  For me, that’s pretty darn close, and drinking two of these water bottles a day has me a little higher at 86 ounces a day!

Even though I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables that are high in water content, there are many days where I drink little to no water, so I definitely needed to step up and start chugging it down.

In the last week I have easily drank the water and I’m noticing results.  Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing blog posts with the noticeable benefits I’m seeing.

Here in 1 week, I have already noticed my skin is less dry, I am eating a little bit less because I’m not as hungry and I’m not as bloated.  I tell people all the time that they need to make sure they are eating enough calories so their cells are properly fueled to perform at peak.  The same is true for ensuring your cells are properly hydrated so they can perform at peak!  When they are hydrated you are more efficient.  I have also lost 2 pounds this week.

What are some of the benefits of drinking enough water?

When you truly look at the science, drinking water has amazing benefits, from lowering the risk of kidney cancer and heart disease, to lubricating your joints for less pain and clearing your skin.  There are NO dangerous side effects, if you don’t overdo it, other than peeing more frequently.

Here is a list of just some of the benefits of drinking plenty of water:

  1. Aids in digestion
  2. Boosts immune system
  3. Eliminates toxins and waste
  4. Helps you feel full longer, so you eat less
  5. Speeds Your Metabolism
  6. Improves dry skin
  7. Clears skin
  8. Relieves headaches
  9. Boosts energy levels
  10. Makes workout recovery faster
  11. Aids in joint lubrication and arthritis
  12. Reduces risk of cancer
  13. Reduces risk of heart disease
  14. Improves brain function

It’s a very impressive list.  Most of us have started, or are thinking of starting a whole food plant based lifestyle for our health.  Naturally drinking plenty of water is a vital part of achieving that better health!

In early 2020, after my own challenge and results are over, I plan on hosting a 30 Day Water Challenge Group!  To help you and others drink more water and experience it’s benefits.
